The project covers 4.2 miles from North of the SH 114/ FM 156 interchange to 12th street in Justin. The project will widen FM 156 from a 2-lane rural road to 4 lane divided urban cross section highway with additional parking for the downtown area. Construction started in early 2017 with an expected completion within 30 months. FM 156 is a very busy highway with an average daily traffic count of 10,000 vehicles, and incoming development is only expected to increase the traffic count more. In order to keep traffic moving, the city is working closely with TxDOT and other entities to ensure that traffic flow remains steady, access is maintained to restaurants and businesses at all times, and communication on any detours is timely.

Estimated timelines from TxDOT
TxDOT has temporarily closed 4th Street at Farm-to-Market 156 (FM 156) in Justin to construct street improvements including parking slots beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 11.The closure will last approximately one month, weather permitting. 5th Street will remain open for alternate access. Additional parking will be available on the old FM156 lanes.
Driveway approaches have been poured and main lanes are open in both directions beginning south of Trail Creek to HWY 114.
Construction for this project is estimated to be substantially complete by Spring of 2020.
The downtown parking project that will be along FM156 will also begin Spring of 2020 and should conclude in Summer of 2020.
